College of Social Work Student Association (CSWSA)

The College of Social Work Student Association (CSWSA) has been up and running for at least five years now. Geared towards OSU social work students, the main purpose of the association is to connect and unify the entire social work student body through various volunteer activities, social events, and leadership opportunities. Last year, CSWSA hosted many events that students, staff, and faculty participated in. Some of our main events last year included a letter writing party, Fight Against Poverty 5K Marathon/Walk, Student Appreciation Day, and wristband sales.

MWANAFUNZI, Swahili for “student,” strives for unity and cohesiveness among minority students and the professional community. Founded in 1974, MWANAFUNZI is proud to be in its 34th consecutive year of existence. The MWANAFUNZI CHAPTER of the National Association of Black Social Workers (NABSW) was organized for students in social work and related disciplines and is based at The Ohio State University College of Social Work, Columbus, OH. The primary concern of the organization has been to provide a means to ensure academic support and excellence among minority students within The College of Social Work and related disciplines. MWANAFUNZI provides a structure and forum, through which students of color in social work and related fields can exchange ideas, participate in and sponsor activities, provide academic support and serve as a valuable resource to one another, the university, and the community at large.
