Current students who will graduate after the university switches to semester summer of 2012, should see Brenda Davidson, Academic Advisor for the MSW program, for questions about their transitional educational plans ( firstname.lastname@example.org or 292-7684 ).
For students who will begin the MSW program on the semester calendar (summer 2012 or after), there is a preview of the MSW semester curriculum available via the link on the left "Curriculum - Semesters."
Under the quarter system, the College of Social Work offers a number of curricular options:
Two Year Full-Time
Students who elect this option earn their MSW degrees in six-quarters. The first year consists of our foundation practice curriculum built on a liberal arts perspective and emphasizing the core knowledge and competency common to all social work practice. First year students apply this knowledge during the winter and spring quarters while completing a 320 hour field practicum in a community agency. The second year consists of an advanced practice curriculum emphasizing the student’s choice of either a clinical or administrative concentration. Students further their preparation as advanced practitioners during a 720 hour field practicum that occurs over all three quarters.
Three or Four Year Part-Time
The MSW degree can also be earned on a part-time basis over either a three or four year period. In addition to enrolling at our Columbus campus, students have the option of taking the initial portion of this curriculum at one of three Ohio State regional campuses in Lima, Mansfield or Newark.
Advanced Standing Alternative Plan (ASAP)
Students who have recently completed an undergraduate degree in social work from a CSWE accredited program, may be eligible to for this option. Full-time ASAP students obtain their MSW degree in four-quarters. Part-time ASAP students can complete the program over eight quarters. All ASAP students complete 60 credit hours of graduate study including one 720 hour field placement. Admission criteria include an earned undergraduate degree in social work within the past five years, and a strong academic record.
