Welcome to the PhD Program homepage. Graduates from our program are on the faculty of Universitites from around the country and the world. In 1927 the School of Social Administration was established at the Ohio State University. The PhD program was initiated the same year, making it one of the oldest social work Ph.D. programs in the country.
The PhD program prepares graduates for research focused academic careers. The program provides the foundation for social work research and scholarship. Each PhD student develops her or his own unique specialization in consultation with faculty advisors. With this foundation, graduates are expected to contribute to the furthing of social work knowledge through research.
Students enter the PhD program from MSW degree programs and other social science and professional fields such as sociology, psychology, public health, and public administration.
We enroll competitive students from diverse backgrounds and with diverse research interests.
